APH - 3333 Pageviews by freefallcrash APH - 3333 Pageviews by freefallcrash
3333rd pageview request for :iconkyonkyonsama: with 'Sweden giving Finland a piggyback ride'. If you had something fluffy in mind, a larger version of the happy half of the pic can be found here OTL

For those wondering why Sweden is wearing Finland's uniform, check out the Swedish Volunteer Corps. While the Swedish government didn't officially support Finland during the war, it also turned a blind eye at all the equipment that went 'missing' near the border.

Thanks for the pageviews, everyone!

Ah gorgeous and such sentimental work, I love and adore all of your FinSu art, it really makes my heart warm to see such nice art of this pair, especially my beloved Finland :) Wonderful concept and as stated before, thank you for including historical facts-it makes it that much more enjoyable and I get to learn more about countries in a fun way! Thank you so much, your art is so lovely and I am so glad I found your account!

Saw this at the Hetalia comm, and just *had* to come here to fav it. Just--amazing. Really. The contrast between the past and present--asd;lkh;gj;

Also, you're the person who drew Sweden giving Canada a piggyback ride? You are amazing and awesome!

I... ah.
I just read a book about this. A book written by Orvar Nilsson, a Swedish soldier who fought for Finland during both the Winter War and the Continuation War. It was... pretty indescribable... the stories from the front line. And now looking at this after reading it. Your beautiful, beautiful drawing combined with such a sensitive concept. I'm just a stupid, spoilt kid who fortunately doesn't have the faintest idea about what war is like... does it make me a sentimental fool if I feel like crying because of historical events like this?

The lines and colours are very pretty. Their body language is delicate, and each face speaks without words. Sweden's determination. Finland resting exhausted against his shoulder, face hidden. And. That. Uniform. I love Sweden wearing it. To a ridiculous level. It makes sense and is completely correct to my understanding, and still it somehow manages to be a very surprising and impressive choice in my eyes. I don't think I've seen him in Finland's uniform ever before. This just completely stole my heart. And at the same time the heart in question is broken into pieces because of the innocence and sweetness in the kids' faces. They must be one of the cutest versions that I've seen of this couple. I wish there was a bigger file of this picture here on dA as well, would that be possible? Their expressions are definitely worth looking close. "Look, Ruotsi! I'm so high up! I'm as tall as you!"

This just makes me want to endlessly blabber about tragedy and injustice and bravery and hope and fear and companionship and gratitude and sorrow and whatnot. So it's better if I shut up now. Just know that this really touches me.

What s/he said! I felt like I had no words for why I loved Sweden in Finland's uniform so much, nothing I could add that wasn't already expressed a thousand times better in the picture. But I love it so! And Timyd's words above are my thoughts/feelings exactly :) Except that I haven't read the book *goes to find it right now*

Ahah! So I'm not alone with my (over)emotional reactions to APH fan art \o/

Just in case you won't find the book with just the author's name, here are the details:
Suomen asiasta tuli omani: ruotsalaisen vapaaehtoisen muistoja talvi- ja jatkosodasta (Schildt 2003)
Or the original in Swedish:
När Finlands sak var min (Schildt 2002)

I read it in Finnish though, I would've had no chance of understanding all those military terms in Swedish ^^; I highly recommend it if you are interested! It was well written, and even though there were little parts that I didn't understand much about (e.g. descriptions of military equipment and so on), it was really interesting and thrilling to read.

High five! I'm even more of a real life Berwald type, SO not emotional, but sometimes stories, pictures or music just hit the right spot and I start to ramble, desperately trying to explain and make others understand the greatness at hand :D

I was just about to ask you if that was the book so thanks! And I was thinking of plunging in headlong and reading it in Swedish to brush up my dying Swedish skills, but you've a point with the military terms... :P I checked the uni library and they seem to have it in Swedish only - at "Työväenliikkeen kirjasto". How random.

In general I'm pretty much of a stoic myself, actually, but when I happen to get sentimental about something, I... go totally overboard XD It's mostly art and stories for me, too, that make me get emotional. They can be just... ahh.

No problem, I hope you will enjoy it! And good luck with the Swedish version :'D We're talking about Helka here? Never even heard of Työväenliikkeen kirjasto... Helmet seems to have it as well, both in Swedish and in Finnish :) I actually happened to find it quite accidentally in the summer in a tiny library in Central Finland when I was at our summer cottage and dying for something to read. Compared to that, it definitely feels pretty random that the biggest university in Finland has it only in Swedish.

We have to let it out somehow :D
Thanks! The last book I read in Swedish was Älskade Mikael before my matriculation exams so I'm pretty much screwed.
Yeah Helka :D I didn't know this library existed either! It's pretty close to my flat, though, so I think I'll go for a little adventure tomorrow. If I've learnt something from writing my thesis, it's that if it's a book I might find useful the uni certainly won't have it.

I'm sort of afraid to check Helmet cos I haven't used it in ages. I hadn't paid a fine of about €20 (had as many CDs as they let me have...) and they sent me a reminder. I paid the fine, but it didn't disappear from the website and because I'm a responsible adult I just ignored it instead of making sure they got the money. I'm sure they would've sent me more letters if they hadn't got the money, but still...

I've never read anything in Swedish x___x Except for dA comments, lol. I considered trying Miika Nousiainen's Hallonbåtsflyktingen in Swedish buuuuut chickened out after all because I kinda would really like to get something out of that one. There it lies on the table now, in Finnish. Blergh. Well, SOMEDAY when I'm smart and rich and powerful and speak ten languages and can fly a helicopter.

*laughter* Should the vast pile of library CDs in my cupboard make me worried now?

So it seems we both live in Helsinki. Shall we have a coffee sometime? </random creepiness>

I'm actually thinking of signing up on a Swedish course and the 18-year-old me is shaking me in horror asking what the hell is wrong with me. I think I'll be fluent in Swedish the day I can apparate. Unless Alexander Skarsgård agrees to be my man. Which is just as likely.

If you have a history of blind spots for library return dates like some of us, then yes. Was about to say I've saved fortunes after getting Spotify, but then I remembered I actually pay for it every month...

Coffee'd be awesome! I promise I won't be an axe-murderer if you won't.

I have to admit having some trouble replying to your message because, well, it's not often I get someone who's moved enough to write such an articulate and personal response to something I've drawn. There's not really much I can say except that I'm very glad that this has touched you. Reading up about the volunteer corps was moving in their bravery and sense of brotherhood to fight for their neighbours. Originally the two time periods were put side by side not so much to shatter hearts, but mostly because I couldn't decide on which idea to use, but it seems that the contrast had a stronger if not welcome impact. And no problem, the kid side of the picture will be uploaded to the Scraps section.

IIRC, there has been an image of Sweden wearing Finland's uniform (with the beret), but it was a costume swap series involving all Nordics, so it didn't have anything to do with the war afaik.

Oh. I apologize for any inconvenience caused by my sentimentality. Pretty and meaningful things tend to release a flow of words in me and then, uh... then I sometimes find I've just embarrassed everyone, myself included. Thank you for replying anyhow, you know you didn't have to.
And thank you for uploading the kid version as well.

No no, nothing to be embarrassed about if that's the case this time. It's just that as someone who rarely feels strong emotions yet alone express them, I just felt at loss at what to say. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on my drawing, it reminds me of the kind of responsibility I should be aware of while working with such concepts. And really, if viewers took the courtesy to write a comment, especially one as honest as yours, the very least I can do is to reply.

No problem, hope you liked it.

Really Nice!!! Truly no words to describe the pure awesomeness of this!! But I shall try.... First the artwork is beautiful! Second the description adds to the picture and really makes this more moving if that was even possible! Third the contrast between when they were kids and now when their older is great plus the change in the mood between the 2 events is great! :squee:  Can't wait to check out the rest of your gallery :gallery:
